Surgeries We Perform

Tongue Tied Procedure or Frenuloplasty

Often times, children have a congenital band underneath the tongue called the frenulum, which is distally attached to the tip of the tongue. This can lead to a decreased range of motion of the tongue and the inability to protrude the tongue or a tongue that if it is protruded has an indentation. This can lead to feeding problems and word pronunciation problems. The surgical procedure to repair such a problem is performed on an outpatient basis at the Pediatric Ear, Nose, & Throat Clinic. It typically takes less than 5 minutes with minimal postoperative discomfort. Recovery room time is less than 30 minutes. Healing is typically within a week.
