Surgeries We Perform

Nose Bleed Surgery

The surgery to take care of children with chronic nosebleeds is usually very simple and Straight forward. If the child has been having nosebleeds for longer than three months and is not responding to conventional therapy, oftentimes it requires the cauterization of the blood vessels in the front of the nose. If a child has chronic nasal congestion that accompanies nosebleeds, oftentimes the child has chronic adenoiditis as the underlying cause of the nosebleed. A surgical procedure to remove the adenoids and cauterize the blood vessels is usually 97% effective in stopping all future nosebleeds. This is typically performed in an outpatient surgical facility with the parents in the operating room accompanying their children during anesthesia induction. The procedure is usually less than 15 minutes and is relatively quickly recovered from. Postoperatively, the child usually uses a topical ointment in the nose and discomfort can typically be controlled with Tylenol. At the Pediatric Ear, Nose, & Throat Clinic we have been taking care of nosebleeds surgically for 25 years.
