Enlarged tonsils and/or adenoids can block a child’s breathing and interfere with sleep. In fact, the most common symptom associated with enlarged tonsils or adenoids is snoring! Snoring in children is often related to Sleep Disordered Breathing and even Sleep Apnea, (breathing that stops for a short time). In addition to snoring, enlarged tonsils or adenoids may cause the following nighttime symptoms: - Restless sleep
- Frequent awakening
- Sleep walking or sleep talking
- Teeth grinding
- Nighttime cough
- Bed-wetting in older children
The surgical removal of tonsils and/or adenoids can relieve the blockage and almost always solves sleep problems in children. |
